Deniz Yücel and Dilek Mayatürk – 5 years
Deniz Yücel is a journalist who became internationally known for his German-Turkish correspondence. When he was then arrested in Turkey, Germany and even the European Court of Justice demanded his release and his case was heavily followed by the media. In the course of his career he has already worked as an editor for the “taz” and is today the Turkey correspondent at Axel Springer Verlag. He is also chairman of the writers’ association “PEN Zentrum Deutschland”. Deniz has been in a relationship with Dilek Mayatürk for many years, who works as a film producer and mainly produces Turkish films. They married in 2017 while he was still in custody.
