Harper straightened up and looked Dennis in the eyes, attempting to sound confident as she asked if he had her phone. Dennis had almost forgotten about it and quickly pulled it from his pocket when she asked. She snatched it from his hand immediately, surprising him.
He noticed a brief smile as she checked the phone, but then she abruptly turned to walk away. Dennis reacted quickly, grabbing her arm and repeating his question with more urgency about what was going on. Harper silently met his gaze with fear still evident in her eyes.
