193. Les Lye – DIABETES

 

Les Lye’s career started far away from the cameras, as he briefly was part of the Canadian armed forces. After getting his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto, Lye worked in radio and TV before making it big through the children’s show, You Can’t Do That On Television. His career lasted almost half a century, and he earned lifetime achievement awards from ACTRA for his contribution to the entertainment industry. He was diagnosed with diabetes in 1999 and managed to survive until the age of 84 with treatment, dying in 2009.
