Former Child Stars You’d Never Ever Recognize On The Street – We Reveal Who Made It Through Childhood Successfully

Jason J. Richter – Left Showbiz To Get A College Degree

“Come on, Willy!”

Jason J. Richter was born in Oregon and moved with his family to Hawaii. A Japanese casting agency discovered him at a young age and hired him for several commercials. His family then decided to relocate to Los Angeles to further Richter’s career. Seems like that was a good idea. As soon as they arrived in LA he landed his first big shot when he was cast as Jesse in the 1993 hit Free Willy. He reappeared on the rest of the trilogy. At the same time he also starred on movies like Cops and Roboters and The Neverending Story III.

But you might ask yourself what happened to Richter after Free Willy? Well, like so many of his child hood friends he decided to take some time off from acting and attended College. After graduating with a BA he made his way back to Hollywood in 2009 and starred on shows like Bones and Criminal Minds. Today, Richter is still acting sporadically but spends the majority of his time behind the scenes as a director and assistant producer.
