Rare Photos From The History Books You Have to See to Believe

World’s Most Famous Lion

The roaring lion who appears at the beginning of every MGM movie is a true cultural icon, something we all know and love. This shot shows the famous lion’s roar being captured for MGM’s first talking picture (White Shadows in the South Seas) which hit movie theatres in 1928.

MGM always referred to their lion as Leo, but in actual fact, the lion was named Jackie. Jackie’s earth-shaking roar featured at the start of every MGM film until the 1950s, and today remains one of the most well-known movie symbols of all time.
