Rare Photos From The History Books You Have to See to Believe

39. Liberty in the Making

No monument on earth is more recognizable or iconic than New York’s Statue of Liberty. In this incredible shot, we get to see Lady Liberty while she was being constructed in France. She was built at the Gaget, Gauthier and Co workshop in parts, and she was later assembled on site in New York.

The statue was a gift from France to the USA in 1886. It was an impressive joint effort between France and the USA, although the project was running a year late due to funding issues. This photo, however, shows the incredible and world-changing work which went into her construction.
