12. Early Selfie

The year is 1900, and this primly dressed woman is taking what is known today as a selfie. That’s right – selfies aren’t as new as you thought they were! Victorians were obsessed with photography, so it comes as no surprise that selfies kind of originated in this era, too.

It really does demonstrate that everything we might think of as new actually has its roots in the past and that we are influenced constantly from those things even subconsciously.  It turned out even in the Victorian era, people were still prone to a bit of camera-based self-indulgence!
