220. Gunnar Hansen – PANCREATIC CANCER

Born in Iceland, Gunnar Hansen moved to the U.S. when he was five years old. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, and when The Texas Chain Saw Massacre started filming there, he auditioned for the part of Leatherface, which he got. He left acting shortly after the movie came out and focused on writing, although he occasionally appeared in films. He also authored a travel memoir as well as a book dealing with the making of the movie that brought him to fame. He went back to acting in a more frequent way in 1988. He died at his home in 2015, felled by pancreatic cancer.
