33. Supermarket in North Korea

The scene is strangely sombre and depressing, eerily quiet and strange. It’s a supermarket, but not as we know it… as this photo was taken in North Korea in 2012.

Photography without a government permit is forbidden under the harsh dictatorship of North Korea, but Michal Huniewicz managed to snap this image covertly while on a trip in Pyongyang. As we can see from the photo, most of the shelves of the supermarket are completely empty, giving outsiders a clue to the deprivation most North Koreans live with day by day.
