Rare Photos From The History Books You Have to See to Believe

31. A Young Samurai

This remarkable photo was taken in 1870 by British-Italian photographer Felice Beato. He moved to Japan in the 1860s, and set up a photo studio there. As a result, he captured many incredible images of Japanese life from a time when the country was still very much closed to the rest of the world.

Beato loved photographing Samurai, and it isn’t difficult to see why. The poise, grace and majesty of these warriors and their elaborate uniforms is a delight to see. This particular young man looks strangely modern in his hairstyle and fixed expression!
