The XB-70 Valkyrie was a prototype aircraft engineered in the United States in the 1950s, and it was originally intended to be one of the main players in the Cold War fleet of the Air Force. It was a very impressive beast, capable of flying at Mach-3 for great distances and pinpointing targets with devastating accuracy.
However, the plane had faced retirement before it even began service, due to the over-ambitiousness of the project. This photo gives you some sense of its majesty and power… even though it hasn’t left the ground!
