Rare Photos From The History Books You Have to See to Believe

Welcome Home, Daddy

It must have been a truly wonderful feeling to welcome your father home safe and sound after experiencing the horrors of the Vietnam war. You can certainly see in the girl’s face the sheer joy and relief to have her daddy back, as he lands on US turf in 1973.

The man in the photo had a worse time than most, in fact. He is Robert L. Stirm, a colonel who was kept as a prisoner of war for no less than 5 years after being shot down in his plane over Hanoi. This photo – titled ‘Burst of Joy’ won a Pulitzer Prize, and it isn’t difficult to see why.
